Hello Fall

Cheap fall activities for busy toddlers is a must when this time of year rolls around.

I’ve never lived somewhere that had a real fall, but that doesn’t stop me from busting out the flannel, buying too many pumpkins, and ordering everything fall from Starbucks.

Now that we have Fern, the first thing that I think of now is “HOW CAN WE KEEP THIS KID BUSY” while still enjoying fall. I want her to love this season from an early age, and creating good memories is a the perfect way to do that.

Cheap Activities for Busy Toddlers

1. Painting Pumpkins

Cost: $5 or less

Time your toddler will be busy: 30-45 minutes

Supplies needed: $1-$2 pumpkin(s), throw-away pain brush (ours were 10 cents), paint (Walmart has bottles for 50 cents), drop cloth or newspaper

To enjoy: make sure your toddler is wearing something you don’t care about, place everything on a drop cloth, then go to town

Your toddler may try: painting themselves .. and everything else …

2. Corn Bucket

Cost: $3 or less

Time your toddler will be busy: 30 minutes

Supplies needed: bag of un-popped popcorn, small objects, large bowl

To enjoy: place corn and small objects into the bowl and encourage your toddler to find things

Your toddler may try: eating the corn ..

3. Fall Festivals and Fairs

This is one of my favorite fall activities for toddlers. I could go to a fair every weekend. Unfortunately, Nate is not quite as fond.

Cost: varies (sometimes free)

Time your toddler will be busy: 1.5-2 hours

Supplies needed: change of clothes, diaper and wipes, sippy cup, snack (in case you can’t find something they like there)

To enjoy: bring a stroller!!

Your toddler may try: escaping …

 

 

4. The Pumpkin Patch 

Cost: $3 or less (only if you buy a pumpkin)

Time your toddler will be busy: 30-45 minutes

Supplies needed: wagon or stroller (optional)

To enjoy: go while it’s cool out

Your toddler may try: throwing pumpkins …

5. Leaf Art

Cost: free

Time your toddler will be busy: 30 minutes

Supplies needed: large leaves, paper, crayons

To enjoy: place your leaf on the table, cover with paper, color

Your toddler may try: eating the crayons …
